Top 10 Organizing Tips                                   

  1. Only keep what you need, use and/or love. Rid youeself of ‘toxic’
    possessions. If it gives you negative memories or feelings it has to GO!
    Clearing you space of old unwanted items allows room for new and
    better hings to come into your life; physically, emotionally, and mentally!

  2. Have a designated mail station in your home. Create a file box or paper trays
    to sort out your mail daily and then pick a day or two each week to write out bills
    and/or respond to incoming mail. Sorting sections can be labeled : File– For things
    you need to keep and have for reference, Action –For coupons, invitations and
    anything that you need to take some action on, and Pay –For bills to be paid.
    It’s also helpful to have a file for take-out menus here too.

  3. When you pick up developed photos immediately throw out any that did not develop well or are otherwise not to your liking. Then pull out any doubles you are planning to give away and send them off to their recipient ASAP.

  4. Once or twice a year go through your closet and turn all the hangers the opposite way. When it’s time to do it again you’ll know which items were worn and which ones need to go to the donation pile.

  5. Get your kids to help clean up by making it a game. Set a timer for 5, 10, or 15 minutes and challenge the whole family to see how tidy you can get the house in that amount of time.

  6. When tidying up a room place all items that belong elsewhere in a basket near the doorway of the room you are cleaning. This will keep you on task and focused so you can straighten out that space and then move on to putting away the stray belongings.
  7. Practice the in/out rule. When something new comes into your home, like a new sweater for example, you should donate an old unused item of clothing to make room for it.

  8. If you have many disorganized areas in your home begin the organizing process with the area that you use most frequently. Nothing motivates like results. When you see the difference organization has made in the areas you use daily you will have the ambition to clear the clutter from less predominate areas of your home.

  9. If you are planning on having a garage sale designate one area of your basement, attic, or garage to store potential sale items. It will be much easier to set up the sale and you will be sure you haven’t forgotten anything you wanted to sell.

  10. Keep a small storage box in your children’s closets or the laundry room for outgrown clothes. When the container is full box them up and donate or save for the next time you need them.
