Top 10 Redesign Tips
- Most pictures are hung too high; pictures should be hung with the center
at 60-62 inches so it is easy to view at eye level. The exception to this
is when a picture is meant to be enjoyed while seated. In this case,
hang the picture accordingly.
- When creating a display of almost anything from pictures to
collectibles to pillows, use an odd numbered amount of things.
- Paint is a cheap easy way to change any space or items.
Don’t be afraid of it. Paint can almost always be painted over if you don’t like it.
- When arranging furniture, be sure to think about how you use the space. Make sure each seat has a place to rest a drink.
- Float your furniture in the spaces. Couches do not need to be up against a wall, unless the backs are in poor condition.
- Every room needs at least 3 sources of light to properly light the space. You’d be surprised at the difference lighting can make!
- When purchasing furniture be sure if fits not only your aesthetic tastes but also the way you and your family live every day. It should be comfortable, durable, as well as visually pleasing. Don’t be afraid to inspect it well in the showroom, you’ll be glad you did later.
- If your sofa is tired looking try adding more stuffing to the cushions and/or using a slip cover. You’d be amazed at how easily a tired old sofa can be brought back to life.
- Almost anything can be re-painted to change the look and feel of an item. Lamps, furniture, statues, vases, even sofas can be painted to match your style!
- Trust your instincts! It’s your home so you’re allowed to break the rules if it feels right to you.
